Simply take a file and attempt to scratch a cut or groove near the center of the shaft. If you have a properly hardened cross shaft, you will not be able to scratch it. If you need a hardened crossshaft see part # SG1920 not included and sold seperately. Note: The Lock-Right provides maximum traction, but a light clicking noise can be heard when turning as the Lock-Right gears allow for wheel differentiation. On some vehicles the engine noise will overcome the clicking noise.
